Die Verknüpfung von digitalen Verhaltensdaten und Umfragedaten

Abstract

While the social sciences have been using survey data for decades, digital behavioral data, e.g., text data from social media or information about behavior on smartphones, have become increasingly available in recent years. Both data forms have specific potentials and limitations, which can be addressed by linking both with each other. Although the combination of these two forms of data opens up new potentials for social science research, this has so far only been done in comparatively few studies. This article discusses why it can make sense to link surveys and digital behavioral data, how this enables research on new topics, what ways there are for linking them, and what challenges arise.
